Does reverse osmosis remove bacteria?

Today we will talk about its removal rate for E. coli. E. coli is just one kind of bacteria, so RO membranes can remove it really well, with a removal rate above 99%.

However, the remaining 1% still brings hidden risks. To get rid of E. coli as much as possible, we usually install sediment filters and activated carbon filters in the front. They can cut down floating solids that wrap bacteria. If you want to kill all live bacteria completely, you can add a UV sterilizer or disinfection device after the RO membrane.
